California firearms sales must be completed through a state-licensed firearms dealer, and an application for sale or transfer must be completed. Purchasers must show a California driver's license with their current address or other recognized form of identification, and supply a thumbprint. If you purchase a handgun, you will need to provide a Proof of Residence. Example: DMV Registration, a Current Utility Bill, Gas, Electric, CCW, etc.

"DROS background check"
The dealer must send an application to the California Department of Justice, "DOJ" and the local police chief. Both agencies conduct background checks on the buyer. The state requires a 10-day waiting period before any firearms, including rifles, to be transferred. If the waiting time exceeds 30 days, the purchaser must complete the application process over again and pay the fees as before. As of January 1, 2019, you will be required to be 21 years of age to purchase any firearm, including long guns.
- However, there is an exception to this new LAW;
- If you are only 18,and have a current Hunting License, this will allow you to purchase a long gun, rifle, or shotgun. However, even with a hunting license at 18, you can not purchase a lower receiver.

"LAWS Very State to State"
Laws vary from state to state, so always check with you state laws and FFL dealers if you are interested in purchasing multiple firearms. For example: you can purchase multiple long guns and one pistol and run them on one DROS. This will save you the cost of running separate DROS for each firearm.
In California, a Private Party Transfers, "PPT", you can transfer multiple handguns and long guns on the same DROS. However, the FFL dealer has to submit an additional form to ATF when multiple handguns are purchased at the same time.
FYI, you can only purchase one center fire Handgun or rifle per every 30 days. Shotguns, bolt actions, lower receivers, and single action rim-fire are exempt.
